The 11th oldest opera company in the nation, Mississippi Opera Association, Inc. (MOA) is the state’s only professional opera company and a founding member of OPERA America. MOA enhances Mississippi's cultural and economic development by presenting high quality opera performances in an accessible manner, identifies and develops regional operatic artists, and promotes the understanding and appreciation of Opera through education, outreach and audience development.

MOA seeks a part-time Administrative Director to assist the Executive Director and the Artistic Director in seeing to the day-to-day operations of the company. The Administrative Director shall assist in the implementation and oversight of all aspects of MOA’s core organizational programs. These will include assisting with coordination of productions, student matinee performances, fundraisers and all aspects of efficient office management. The Administrative Director will work closely with and report directly to the Executive Director. The hours are flexible and will vary with respect to production dates.

This position could lead to full-time hours and salaried compensation with continued organizational management and added strategic development functions for the incumbent within nine months.

Must Have:
  • A mixture of education and professional experience in all function areas: administration, marketing, development, public relations;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Proficiency with standard office computer programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Ability to grasp an understanding of current administrative practices and create enhanced organizational infrastructure;
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities/deadlines, delegate effectively and manage projects efficiently;
  • Knowledge of or competence to quickly learn ticketing and development software;
  • Experience writing and editing material for marketing and correspondence;
  • Experience working with volunteers and interns;
  • Capacity to work respectfully and productively with Board members/consultants on projects;
  • Ability to develop and maintain all administrative protocols and guidelines.
Highly Desirable:
  • Nonprofit arts organization experience;
  • Passion for opera and innovative Internet technology;
  • Quickbooks and general bookkeeping skills;
  • Competence in giving conceptual input on grant content, Web interface, PR materials, donor correspondence.
