Production Controller

DEFINITION
The Production Controller reports to the CFO and the Production Administrator, and has primary responsibility for supporting Production Finance. The Controller is responsible for business process improvement, production budgeting, forecasting and analysis, as well as primary support for media accounting.

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES
This position requires both theater company and finance experience. The ability to maintain confidentiality and work with both union and non-union work groups is essential. Exceptional consultative skills are required.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
  • Review, analyze and make recommendations to improve production finance systems, controls and processes
  • Research and analyze budget variances (actual vs. budget)
  • Develop budgets and forecasting models as necessary
  • Manage various projects on a timely basis
  • Review various general ledger accounts and record activity for Media Department
  • Administer all aspects of the media rights clearance and payment process
  • Assist in the completion of the Media Dept annual budget and forecasts
  • Analyze and make recommendations to improve time and attendance systems
  • Develop production finance reports, as necessary
  • Prepare monthly journal entries
  • Review Accounts Payable transactions and direct vendor management and relations
  • Review and analyze collective bargaining agreements
  • Assist production department with budgets and forecasts
  • Assist the Production Administrator with the preparation of data and information for forecast meetings
  • Gather and maintain historical financial data
  • Cross-train as backup for the Production Accountants
  • Work on various projects as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
Any combination of education and experience that provides the required skills and knowledge for successful performance. Typical qualifications include
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in accounting/finance
  • Two to five years of theater company experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Business process improvement
  • Highly flexible and able to prioritize work based on business needs
  • Knowledge of Collective Bargaining Agreements and other contracts
  • Ability to manage projects within budget and on a timely basis
  • Skills in
    • Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word
    • Windows-based accounting systems
  • Ability to
    • Complete a large volume of work with a high degree of accuracy
    • Evaluate and apply rules related to basic accounting principles
    • Set appropriate priorities and meet deadlines
    • Maintain confidentiality
    • Communicate effectively
