The Artistic Administrator reports directly to and works closely with the General Director. The Artistic Administrator has the overall responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the Artistic Department and also manages many aspects of planning for the Production Department. The Artistic Administrator supervises the Seasonal Company Manager in order to accomplish the Department’s responsibilities and coordinates with the Production Manager in matters that affect both departments. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, highly organized, and be able to work as a team leader with other creative people. The candidate should have several years experience working with an opera company, orchestra or other related organization.

Responsibilities include:
  • Identifying potential singers for future productions and screening artist materials.
  • Planning, scheduling and operating auditions for main-stage artists and candidates for the company’s Young Artist Program.
  • Working with the Director of Musical Studies/Head of Music Staff on Young Artist scheduling and activities.
  • Negotiating artist contracts with agents and issuing all contracts.
  • Preparing and monitoring the artistic budgets and cash flow projections.
  • Maintaining music and artistic files and records.
  • Preparing and managing payroll for artists and production staff.
  • Preparing for and participating in negotiations with unions for collective bargaining agreements (AGMA, AFM, USA).
  • Supervising artist travel and housing.
  • Supervising the rehearsal schedule: reviewing, proposing and approving changes.
  • Maintaining the music library including rentals, and ordering parts.
  • Responsible for negotiating and securing performance rights.
  • Maintaining the archive audio and video recordings of performances and rehearsals.
  • Overseeing the preparation and/or rental of the projected titles.
  • Production planning duties include budgeting for the production department and negotiating co-production agreements and rentals.
  • Working with COT’s Education Department in the planning and implementation of community engagement programs that feature artists.
  • Other duties as assigned.

From Airport:
The easiest way to reach the OPERA America offices is to get a cab at the airport. Cost is $40-45
(not including tip).
  • JFK - Take the AirTrain ($5 - approx. 15 minutes) to the Jamaica Street Station and transfer to the Long Island Railroad (LIRR). Take the LIRR to Penn Station ($12 - approx. 35 minutes). See Penn Station directions below.
  • LaGuardia - Take the M60 Bus to the Hoyt Ave/31st Street. Get on the or Train and take that to 42nd/Times Square Station. Follow the Times Square Station directions below.
  • Newark - Take the New Jersey Transit train to Penn Station ($15 - approx. 45 min). See the Penn Station Directions below.

From Penn Station/Madison Square Garden:
Leave the station through the 7th Avenue/33rd Street exit and walk south for four blocks. The building is on
the right hand side.

From Grand Central Station:
Take the Train to the 42nd/Times Square station and transfer to the Train.
Take the Train to the 28th Street stop and walk north on 7th Avenue.
The building is on the same block as the train stop.

From 42nd Street/Times Square:
