Opera Conference 2006
May 3-7, 2006
Seattle, Washington
Connectivity Our commitment to connecting appreciative audiences to live performances of opera is unwavering, but the way we connect with audiences has been reinvented, beginning with the very art we produce. As traditional stagings of standard repertoire continue to draw some audiences, other audiences are more likely to connect with innovative productions and commissions of new works with explicit links to their own communities and the popular culture.
From subscription coffees to e-marketing, we have more tools than ever to connect with current and prospective audiences and donors across geographic, economic, age, and cultural barriers. At the same time, movies, jazz concerts, sports events, and personal entertainment devices are increasingly capturing our audiences’ attention. The rate of change — in opera and the world around us — is accelerating in terms of aesthetics, communications, and behavior. How do we find the time to understand and learn from the developments in the larger cultural arena? How do we connect to the new means of connectivity?
Opera Conference 2006: Connectivity will respond to the urgent need of our field to produce art that captures the public imagination. Sessions will identify ways to harness the power of the best new technologies, reach current and prospective audiences, gain support from donors, and enrich the lives of children and adults who are now downloading podcasts, reading blogs, and designing their own multimedia communications.
We look forward to seeing you in Seattle!

Lunch Around Town
Opera Conference 2006: Connectivity will include a Lunch Around Town on Friday, May 5 from 12:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. We need you to register for which event you plan to attend.
This event allows us to connect with the Seattle community. Rather than hearing about new ideas in a conference room, you will be able to witness first-hand the community, the facilities, and the ideas that are being featured.
OPERA America has set aside 2 ½ hours for these sessions (except where noted). Transportation will be provided, but lunch will be necessary.
