Making Connections on the Web
We live in a truly exciting time. More arts organizations than ever are using Web 2.0 technologies, including open source software, to engage and develop their audiences and employees. Diana Hossack aptly chronicled this excitement in her February 2008 ArtistLink feature.
In keeping with this global trend, OPERA America has in recent months sought more than ever to enrich the member experience on operaamerica.org. This season, for the first time, OPERA America offers podcasts from the Making Connections series for download. The sessions, professional development and networking events in New York City, are available by visiting the Making Connections Archive. The first two sessions of the 2008-2009 season, "Finding Artist Mentors" and "Crossing From Theater Directing to Opera," are available now.
Live Making Connections sessions in the OPERA America office will continue on October 16 with "Fine-tuning Your Networking Skills." "Workshopping Your Opera" and "Performing in Your Community" will follow on October 28 and 29, respectively. Visit the Making Connections Web page to view the season line-up or register for these sessions. If you are outside of the New York metropolitan area, check back later for the podcasts.
Also available online is a podcast from OPERA America's most recent Workshop for Singers in San Francisco. The session, "Performing an Effective Audition," features Clifford (Kip) Cranna, San Francisco Opera (moderator); Sheri Greenawald, San Francisco Opera; Peter Kazaras, Seattle Opera; Jay Lesenger, Chautauqua Opera; Bill Palant, IMG Artists; and Timm Rolek, Sacramento Opera. The recording is available for download here.
In addition to these new podcasts, the OPERA America Web site also includes a number of useful, comprehensive features for opera artists, producers and audiences:
In addition to these features on the OPERA America Web site, another great way to stay connected to OPERA America is through our Facebook group. OPERA America members and non-members alike can join the group to stay abreast of our artistic programs and to receive invitations to Making Connections events, workshops and other opportunities for artists.
