DETAILS
Public Programs and Media AssistantSeattle Opera • Full-Timehttp://seattleopera.orgSeattle, WASeattle Opera is accepting applications for the position of Public Programs and Media Assistant. This full-time hourly position reports to the Director of Public Programs and Media and is a member of the Communications and Marketing Department.
The Public Programs and Media Assistant plays a key role in the support of Seattle Opera's public relations and social media initiatives, including: development and preparation of publicity and social media materials; analysis of effectiveness of social media programs; promotion of Seattle Opera's performances, programs, activities, and events; support for a variety of public programming and media activities and events; and updates to social networks and website content as needed.
SCOPE AND PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Write PR copy for press releases, media alerts, and social media posts; proofread company communications; develop support materials for opera productions, educational programs, blogs, and news events (including written, audio, photographic, and video content); prepare and update biographical information and profiles of staff, artists, directors, designers, and other cast and company members; participate in media relations activities including press invitations, press lists, and media databases; establish and maintain effective working relationships with media; conduct research and assist with special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND DESIRED ATTRIBUTES
- Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent experience in communications, PR, social media, journalism, or a related field.
- Professional experience in PR, social media, and journalism.
- Superb proofing, editing, and copywriting skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with a wide variety of people.
- Team player who works well in a fast-paced environment.
- Deadline driven, highly organized, and able to multi-task.
- Experience in the arts or non-profits is a plus.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
- Able to analyze the effectiveness of social media campaigns.
- Knowledge of basic HTML coding is necessary.
- Experience using Photoshop.
- Knowledge of sound and video editing software is a plus.
- Knowledge of opera is a bonus; interest in opera is necessary.
This position requires some evening and/or weekend work.

Salary DOE. Seattle Opera offers a generous benefit plan including medical, dental, life and disability insurance, retirement plan, and free parking.

The easiest way to reach the OPERA America offices is to get a cab at the airport. Cost is $40-45 (not including tip).

Take the AirTrain ($5 - approx. 15 minutes) to the Jamaica Street Station and transfer to the Long Island Railroad (LIRR).

Take the M60 Bus to the Hoyt Ave/31st Street. Get on the

Take the  Train to the 42nd/Times Square station and transfer to the  Train.
Take the  Train to the 28th Street stop and walk north on 7th Avenue.
The building is on the same block as the train stop.
