The Corporation of Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall invites applications for the position of Director of Programming.
Reporting to the President/Chief Executive Officer, the Director of Programming is a member of the executive team, responsible for the overall programming vision for the Corporation. The Director leads an innovative team in the planning, delivery, booking, management, and evaluation of the Corporation’s programming and marketing in two of Canada’s premier concert halls: Massey Hall (capacity: 2,753) and Roy Thomson Hall (2,630), as well as other venues in the city.
This is an exciting period of growth for the Corporation which is both revitalizing historic Massey Hall (built 1894) and evolving from a venue company to a music company that develops, nurtures, and celebrates the entire musical ecology.

The Corporation of Massey Hall & Roy Thomson Hall is a registered charitable
not-for-profit organization best known for owning and operating two of Canada’s finest concert halls, both key facilities in Toronto’s cultural landscape.
The Corporation’s vision is to provide access for all to meaningful music experience in world class halls and beyond, investing in artists, audiences, education and technology to reflect the diversity of the communities the Corporation serves. The goals are to generate excitement around performance and music, build on the strength of both halls, and present a diverse schedule of Canadian and international performing artists of the highest quality from classical and jazz to lectures, world music and dance, and rock.
Roy Thomson Hall is home to the Toronto Symphony Orchestra and the gala screenings of the Toronto International Film Festival as well as being the venue of choice for numerous corporate and private functions
Over 400 artistic productions are produced, marketed, and staged at the Halls every year. In addition to events at these two Halls, the Corporation also presents concert opportunities at other venues in the city to foster the growth and development of Canadian talent.
The annual budget is approximately $22 million CND. The programming, marketing, and publicity staffs report to the Director of Programming.
We seek a person with senior level experience in programming
who can book exceptional creative events and activities for diverse audiences. The ideal candidate will have a strong contact network throughout the arts industry in a variety of disciplines, an excellent track record of financial accountability, strong interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills, a demonstrated ability to lead, coach and motivate staff, and the industry savvy to identify and nurture emerging talents in many genres. A broad knowledge of the Canadian cultural scene and Toronto marketplace would be helpful.
