The General Director reports to the Board and is responsible for the overall management of the company. Areas of responsibility include budgets, grant applications, fundraising, management of staff and facilities, interfacing with the community including donors and other arts organizations, and in collaboration with the Artistic Director, selection of repertoire, singers, and production management. Additional duties will include post-performance reviews and interviews with all major individuals or organizations involved, clarification of problems, establishing and carrying out solutions, and providing comprehensive and timely reports to the Board.
Located in Binghamton, New York, the Tri-Cities Opera Company (TCO) is a professional organization with a 65 year history of continuous main stage performances. Currently three productions are staged each year, with two performances each. Additionally TCO has many outreach programs to expose elementary and middle school children to opera. TCO operates a resident artist program, currently 4 individuals, who audition to join and contract with the company for a minimum of one year. A stipend is provided. TCO also works closely with the Music Department of the State University of New York at Binghamton (SUNY-B or Binghamton University [BU]) through the Master of Music program, providing main stage roles as part of thesis requirements. While these students are full time in the MM program they are also available through the year for special events. The General Director must be willing to attend some of the concerts and recitals given by Master of Music students at BU and engage with the faculty.
The General Director must be comfortable working with young resident artists and their special needs.
The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years experience in management of a not for profit arts organization, including dealing with budgetary and other financial matters, a passion for music performances, and knowledge of opera and opera productions. Experience as a stage manager is an added benefit.
