| Description: |
Phrenic Crush concerns the history of tuberculosis in San Francisco from the 19th century to the present. Once a celebrated marker of romantic decay and febrile genius (LA BOHÈME, LA TRAVIATA), the disease is now attached to poverty, AIDS, the immigrant, and the pariah. Titu, a Filipina woman, has tuberculosis, but she lives for 200 years and has many husbands, most of whom die on their wedding night.
