Opéra de Nancy
The first scene opens in Montmartre, Paris in 1898. Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, the famous Montmartre painter, falls in love with Mireille, a young prostitute who becomes his main source of inspiration. One day, however, Mireille follows two cattle explorers to Buenos Aires, believing she will be free, rich, and renowned at last, in a faraway country. Both Mireille and Lautrec find their separate ways of life; however, they are forever united in Lautrec's painting. The year 2001 celebrates the centenary of Toulouse Lautrec's death.
