Dresden Music Festival
The opera retells a biblical story of the flood and explores man's relationship to God. It asks whether the blind belief in God's will is really only a positive force and whether disbelief and doubt are not equally necessary for mankind toward an equivocal God who exposes mankind to good and evil alike. The action unfolds between strong, archaic characters created by Barlach, who was also one of the greatest German sculptors.
