Jorge Sosa Jorge Sosa is a Mexican composer currently residing in New York. Jorge's works have been performed in Mexico, the United States and Europe. He was a resident artist with American Lyric Theater’s (ALT) Composer-Librettist Development Program in 2009. Since then, ALT has commissioned Sosa’s first full-length opera,
La Reina. The “Aria para la Santa Muerte” from
La Reina was premiered at ALT's “Freshly Brewed” series at OPERA America, and was also selected to be featured at
Opera Conference 2012 in Philadelphia as part of the New Works Forum. Sosa was commissioned to write his “Song of the Last Crossing” as part of a collection of works written to commemorate the opening of the National Opera Center. His
Sonic Bifurcation has been included in Keith Kirchoff’s “Electroacoustic Piano” project and has been performed at the SEAMUS 2012 conference, Tulsa University and Bucknell University. Sosa’s sax concerto,
Domino Effect, was premiered by the French Saxophone Project in 2012 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music. He has taught at LeMoyne-Owen College in Memphis, Elmhurst College in the greater Chicago area and is currently on the faculty at Seton Hall University. Sosa received a D.M.A. from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, a master’s degree from Mannes College of Music and a licentiate degree from the Centro de Investigacion y Estudios de la Musica (C.I.E.M) in Mexico City. http://www.jorgesosa.com.
Magda Bogin 
New York-based writer Magda Bogin has produced a body of work straddling fiction, poetry, opera and non-fiction. Born in Manhattan, she has lived and worked extensively in Mexico, France, Italy and Russia. The recipient of numerous grants and awards, most recently as a librettist in residence with American Lyric Theater in New York, she has taught writing at Columbia University, Princeton and the City College of New York. She is the founder and director of Under the Volcano, a program of writing master classes that convenes every January in Mexico and that offers ongoing cyber pods for those with works in progress. In addition, she leads México Canta, a week-long intensive for experienced and emerging
composers culminating in a showcase concert of new vocal work in English
or Spanish. Held every January as part of Under the Volcano‘s
annual writing retreat in the village of Tepoztlán, an hour from Mexico
City, the program offers daily workshops and tutorials with master
composers and the chance to collaborate with writers in residence at the
same time.
Audrey Babcock A fresh and vibrant interpreter of
Carmen,
Audrey Babcock has performed the role with Nashville Opera, San Antonio Opera, Toledo Opera, Utah Festival Opera and Intermountain Opera, and this season with Florentine Opera. This season also sees her return to Syracuse Opera as Mrs. Lovett in
Sweeney Todd. Most recently, she sang Suzuki in
Madama Butterfly with Tulsa Opera and Erika in
Vanessa with Sarasota Opera. Other highlights include Jo (
Little Women), Maddalena (
Rigoletto), Aldonza/Dulcinea (
Man of La Mancha), Dorabella (
Così fan tutte) and Secretary (
The Consul).
