Currently celebrating its 21st season, the Children’s Chorus of Greater Dallas (CCGD) provides Dallas-area young people with opportunities to study and perform choral music at the highest level of artistic excellence, in a group that reflects the region’s ethnic and economic diversity. Led by Artistic Director Cynthia Nott, CCGD annually enrolls more than 500 students in grades 4–12, drawn from 53 communities across greater Dallas.

CCGD annually presents a three-concert season at the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, and is the only youth chorus in the nation to regularly hold its performances in a premier classical music venue. Since 2013, CCGD has also served as the official children’s chorus of the prestigious Dallas Symphony Orchestra (DSO). Through season concerts; guest appearances with DSO, Dallas Bach Society, Arts District Chorale, Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, and other local ensembles; and community engagement programs, CCGD shares choral music with more than 22,000 Dallas residents each year. CCGD performs on annual television broadcasts, reaching an estimated 400,000 local viewers, and tours nationally or internationally in alternating years.

From its inception, CCGD has dedicated itself to reflecting the full socioeconomic spectrum of the greater Dallas community, and is one of the only youth choruses in the nation to affirm this commitment in its mission statement. Currently, nearly 50% of CCGD’s enrollment comprises children and youth of color. CCGD is equally distinctive among youth choruses nationwide for the quality and diversity of its repertoire—which focuses on classical choral literature from the Renaissance through the present day as well as folk-based art music from around the world—and its emphasis on training students in bel canto singing technique. CCGD further aims to cultivate students who are engaged public citizens, and to foster a lifelong appreciation for the arts and culture beyond the realm of music.

CCGD’s anchor program, the audition-based Downtown Chorus, offers a sequential choral arts curriculum for children and youth ages 8–18. The program comprises four choruses for girls and boys with unchanged voices in grades 4–8: Prelude (beginner), Apprentice (intermediate), Concert II (an advanced chorus for younger children), and Concert I, which serves as CCGD’s premier ensemble and performs throughout the season with DSO and other professional music groups. For students in grades 9–12, CCGD offers a mixed Youth Chorus and Women’s Youth Chorus. The Downtown Chorus now boasts more than 2,000 alumni—many of whom have continued to pursue choral music as professional singers, voice instructors, and choral conductors.

CCGD’s community engagement initiatives include the Neighborhood Chorus Program (NCP), which operates two free choruses at West Dallas Community School; free in-school Outreach Chorus concerts in elementary schools throughout the metroplex; introductory Summer Singing Camps; free, all-ages SingOut! concerts in Klyde Warren Park and other local community and cultural venues; and ongoing professional development opportunities for area choral instructors.

CCGD enjoys a strong financial position: The organization has ended its fiscal year in the black for the past four years, does not carry an accumulated deficit, and currently maintains a cash reserve. CCGD also established an endowment fund in 2014.



The Executive Director, reporting to CCGD’s Board of Directors, assumes responsibility for the management of all human and financial resources needed to achieve CCGD’s mission. Overall responsibilities include maximizing earned and contributed revenue; cultivating audience and community relationships; and overseeing all administrative, operational, and financial activities to ensure the continued success of CCGD. As the public face of the organization, the Executive Director is responsible for presenting positive images to young musicians, parents, donors, and members of the community regarding CCGD’s programs and role in music education. These multifaceted responsibilities call for demonstrated organizational and leadership skills; nonprofit management experience; and an ability to collaborate with artistic and administrative staff, board, and community members.




· Plan, implement, and coordinate all fundraising activities, including annual fund drives, corporate sponsorships, public and private grants, special events, and new initiatives.

· Maintain and establish relationships with foundations, corporations, and government agencies.

· Oversee stewardship of current donors and cultivation efforts of donor prospects.

· Work with CCGD’s Development Committee to maximize Board participation in fundraising. Provide staff support to assist committee members with execution of concepts and plans.

· Maintain CCGD’s donor database (PatronManager).



· Work with Treasurer to develop annual budgets and cash-flow projections. Prepare quarterly budget projections to be shared at CCGD Board meetings.

· Manage annual audit of CCGD financial statements.

· Work with CCGD’s Endowment Committee to maximize earnings of the Endowment Fund.



· Engage Board members to maximize their participation in CCGD and their contribution toward its success and growth.

· Coordinate preparation of Board meeting agendas and chair reports.

· Provide staff support to assigned Board committees including Development, Executive, Marketing, and Strategy.

· Work with the Executive Committee to identify, cultivate, and recruit new Board members.

· Play an active role in the orientation, education, and engagement of new and existing Board members.



· Plan, implement, and coordinate season and single-ticket campaigns, as well as marketing and public relations strategies including electronic, print, radio, television, and promotional materials as needed.

· Work with CCGD’s Marketing Committee to maximize earned revenue campaigns. Provide staff support to assist committee members with execution of concepts and plans.

· Develop relationships with local media and prepare news releases regarding the activities of CCGD.

· Serve as the public face of CCGD, clearly articulating and advocating for the Chorus’s mission and impact with a wide range of stakeholders.

· Make regular updates to CCGD’s website and social media platforms.



· Manage business arrangements for all tours.

· Oversee production aspects of all CCGD performances.

· Oversee negotiation of all contracts and agreements, including guest artist performance fees, sale-of-service contracts, and rehearsal and performance space rentals.



· Drive efforts for long-term strategic planning, working in partnership with CCGD’s Artistic Director and Board.

· Work with CCGD’s Strategy Committee to evaluate organizational progress towards goals outlined in Strategic Plan, and revise Plan as needed.

· Work with Artistic Director to identify areas for possible expansion of programs and ventures.



The ideal candidate will:

· Have experience working in the arts or youth education

· Be a strategic thinker

· Be able to motivate staff and Board to implement strategic plans

· Have a passion for classical music

· Be well-versed in nonprofit finances

· Have a strong commitment to and interest in fundraising

· Be adaptable and willing to take a hands-on role across all facets of the organization

· Be able to work with children and parents

· Have experience engaging diverse stakeholders

· Grow in the Executive Director position and understand how to delegate tasks as the organization expands



Qualified applicants will have a minimum of 3-5 years of senior management experience with a successful track record in the performing arts, nonprofit, or youth education sectors. A Master's degree is preferred. Knowledge of and passion for classical music and arts education are preferred. Experience working with boards in achieving earned and contributed revenue goals is expected, as are excellent written and verbal presentation and financial management skills. Competency and comfort with all standard computer applications and equipment (Microsoft Office) is mandatory. Experience with patron databases, Adobe design software, and website content management systems is preferred. Background screening of applicants will be considered before offer of employment.



CCGD offers a competitive annual compensation, commensurate with experience, and a benefit package that includes healthcare coverage and a stipend for professional development. Moving expense allocation will be considered.
