About the Metropolitan Opera Guild

The Metropolitan Opera Guild is a premier arts education organization dedicated to enriching people’s lives through the magic and artistry of opera. Summary Position Description

Reporting jointly to the Director of Finance and Administration and the Guild’s Managing Director, the Human Resources Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of human resources functions and duties, and will also provide general administrative and office support.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain complete and confidential employee personnel records and attendance files.
  • Prepare payroll for processing on a biweekly basis. Ensure accuracy and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive employee information.
  • Assist with the administration of employee benefits. Prepare new hire packets and assist the Director of Finance and Administration with the coordination of Open Enrollment. Field questions from staff related to time-off, general benefit offerings, and other HR-related policies and practices.
  • Set up pension payments for processing on a monthly basis, and serve as the primary point of contact for pension plan participants. Promptly and professionally respond to all inquiries and requests for support.
  • Provide a high level of client service to all Guild employees and external contacts.
  • Provide general administrative support, including: meeting coordination, travel coordination, office event coordination, business card ordering, HR invoice processing, and preparing and editing various documents.
  • Serve as the primary vendor contact for the Guild’s mail delivery services provider. Deliver and sort office mail, and help troubleshoot any related issues. Maintain a clean, organized and well-stocked mailroom/supply room.
  • Receive and field incoming calls and disseminate information as required and authorized.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelors or Associates degree. Prior Human Resources experience such as relevant coursework or internships a plus.
  • Self-Starter with the ability to multitask and manage time with strong attention to detail, follow-through and organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically with all levels in the organization.
  • Customer service approach.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Suite, and comfortable learning new systems. Experience using ADP’s payroll system, and/or previous experience with data entry a plus.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and high level of honesty and integrity.
