Visiting Music Assistant Professor in Vocal Performance, Non-Tenure Track

New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for a nontenure track Visiting Music Assistant Professor position in Vocal Peformance to begin in September 2018. The appointed faculty member will be part of the Music and Performing Arts Professions. An associate-level hire may also be possible, pending a review of candidate experience and provostial approval. This is a one-year non-tenure track appointment that is renewable for an additional two years, depending upon department need and satisfactory performance. It also carries the possibility of converting to a longer-term contract. POSITION DESCRIPTION: Steinhardt seeks a candidate who can serve as an Operatic Stage Director and instructor in the field of classical voice studies. Applicants with a background in opera coaching as well as voice teachers with directing experience will also be considered. Experience in university administration will be taken into consideration in evaluating potential candidates.


RESPONSIBILITIES: Select and stage operatic/classical repertoire as well as teach courses in the field that may include Song Analysis, Song Repertoire, Lyric Diction, Opera History, Vocal Coaching and Voice Lessons. Participate in recruitment, advisement, and otherwise assist in the growth and development of Classical Voice at NYU Steinhardt. Service appropriate to a university faculty member is expected.


QUALIFICATIONS: A master’s degree or higher is preferred, but candidates with a record of stage direction for opera and/or musical theatre at the university and professional level are highly encouraged to apply.
