OPERA America – the nonprofit service organization for opera – leads and serves the entire opera community, supporting the creation, presentation, and enjoyment of opera. Artistic services help opera companies and creative and performing artists to improve the quality of productions and increase the creation and presentation of North American works. Information, technical, and administrative services to opera companies reflect the need for strengthened leadership among staff, trustees, and volunteers. Education, audience development, and community services are designed to enhance all forms of opera enjoyment.

 

Position Overview

Reporting to the Director of Marketing and Communications, this position produces original digital video content for OPERA America and coordinates its distribution through communications channels. 

 

Responsibilities – include but are not limited to:

 

Media and Programming

  • Storyboard, create, and produce video content and other media content of interest to members, clients, and other constituents of OPERA America and the National Opera Center.
  • Edit all video content produced for OPERA America.
  • Generate a media plan for the distribution of videos and digital streaming programming.

  • Manage all OPERA America digital streaming programming, including technical logistics, editing, titling and monitoring of the streams. Includes archival storage and access to recorded media.

 

  • Manage the distribution of video content through OPERA America’s website, social media channels, e-mail, and other electronic distribution within the brand.

  • Coordinate digital communications and presentation materials relating to OPERA America’s Annual Conference, produce printed materials onsite at the conference and, in addition, assist in conference management as assigned.

 

  • Participate in promotional planning for departmental programs and execution of digital communication programs for Marketing and Communications, Artistic Services, Learning and Leadership, Development, and Membership departments, the National Opera Center and the Office of the President.
  • With the Director of Marketing and Communications, manage OPERA America’s social media channels, engage followers and the public and monitor/report the organization’s presence in these areas.
  • Gather, interpret, and present metrics and analytics such as KPI to develop marketing and media strategies for OPERA America and The National Opera Center.
  • Implement OPERA America’s electronic distribution platforms, such as: e-blasts and other online communications, including formatting and distribution, as provided by the Marketing and Communications department.
  • Curate original digital content provided by OPERA America’s Professional Company Members for use in OPERA America’s communications on behalf of the entire field, providing guidance to them as needed.
  • Work with all OPERA America departments to capture and edit professional development content for educational use on the OPERA America website.

 

 

General

  • Work actively and professionally with all OPERA America staff members, Board of Directors and members.
  • Provide assistance as needed for all departments in the organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Evaluation

An initial evaluation will occur after three months, a follow-up evaluation after six months, and thereafter annually on the anniversary of the hire date.

 

Salary and Compensation

With a starting salary of $55,000, OPERA America provides health benefits, a pension package, paid vacation, and life insurance to all full-time employees.

 

Experience and Skills

The ideal candidate must have extensive knowledge of video and digital media production and editing.  Also required are excellent written and oral communications skills with experience communicating in various voices, generating innovating ideas, and knowledge of digital communications, social media, and other electronic communication platforms. Must be detail oriented and able to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines. Experience with Microsoft Office is necessary. Proficiency in and familiarity with Adobe Creative Cloud is necessary.  Knowledge of Google Analytics and social media advertising are a plus. Candidates with digital photography experience preferred.
