Job Summary

Austin Opera is seeking a Director of Strategic Partnerships to serve as a key liaison to its affinity groups and corporate entities. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Director of Strategic Partnerships will perform a critical role in advancing Austin Opera’s philanthropic goals by creating and managing meaningful connections to individual and corporate communities.

The Director of Strategic Partnerships will oversee the design and execution of all affinity group events, and will partner with the development team to identify and move donor prospects from those events through the development pipeline to maximize engagement and support. (S)he will manage the company’s corporate giving programs, identifying, cultivating, and soliciting support to advance the company’s strategic goals.

Duties and responsibilities

Affinity Groups: The Director of Strategic Partnerships will serve as company liaison to existing and new affinity groups, ensuring the efficient execution of events and meetings in line with Austin Opera’s vision and goals.

  • Austin Opera Guild
  • Attend all meetings and Guild events to ensure seamless cohesion with the company’s strategic plan
  • Oversee plans and execution of Guild-sponsored fundraising events including the annual gala and opening night dinners, ensuring the integration of best practices to meet revenue goals
  • Direct any additional fundraising activities, such as Amplify Austin
  • La Noche
    • Attend all meetings and events to ensure seamless cohesion with the company’s strategic plan
    • Participate in the recruitment of new members
    • Oversee plans and execution of all events
    • Identify key donor prospects and ensure their continued engagement with Austin Opera
  • UrbanNites
    • Work with volunteer leadership to build participation in line with annual goals
    • Partner with the Marketing Department to ensure the achievement of sales and strategic goals
    • Identify key donor prospects and ensure their continued engagement with Austin Opera

Corporate Partners: The Director of Strategic Partnerships will oversee Austin Opera’s corporate giving and partnership programs:


·         Ensure outstanding stewardship for current corporate partners

·         Partner with the development department in the identification of new corporate partner prospects

·         Represent the company in the cultivation and solicitation of corporate partners


Fundraising: The Director of Strategic Partnerships will maintain a portfolio of corporate and individual donor prospects and work with the Chief Development Officer and General Director & CEO to ensure an effective moves management system to move them through the donor pipeline.

  • Identify prospects through affinity group events, partnership building activities, and community networking events to identify
  • Ensure prospect engagement is recorded and tracked through Tessitura and the company’s moves management tools
  • Participate in solicitations and oversee all cultivation and stewardship moves


  • 3+ years of development experience, including work with individual and corporate supporters
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
  • The ability to represent Austin Opera with the utmost professionalism at all times
  • Demonstrated ease in working with high profile leaders and philanthropists in the community
  • Demonstrated ability to work with groups of passionate volunteers to reach consensus
  • Experience in event management and knowledge of fundraising event best practices
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and customer relationship management software
  • Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure, to adapt easily to changing situations and priorities, and to meet multiple deadlines and goals simultaneously
  • Familiarity with and enthusiasm for opera and the performing arts

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed
