Costume Assistant

Seattle Opera invites applications for the position of Costume Assistant. This full-time position reports to the Costume Shop Manager and is responsible for office and workroom support to the Costume Shop Manager, including stocking inventory, purchasing, fitting and dress rehearsal support, and maintaining financial records for the Costume Department. Start date: Feb 25, 2018.

Duties include:
procuring materials and shop supplies; shipping and receiving; assisting with rentals as needed; clerical support to Costume Shop Office Staff; bookkeeping, data entry and the tracking of financial records for all Costume activities. Position serves as liaison to the Finance Department.

Qualifications

• Associates degree in theater or related studies
• Minimum of two years in opera and/or theatre costume shops or comparable experience
• Working knowledge of fabrics and notions
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to organize and prioritize a wide variety of projects and meet established deadlines.
• Strong math aptitude with understanding of basic bookkeeping principals.

• Must be accurate and detail oriented.
• Computer skills (Filemaker, Word, Excel) for bookkeeping, generating reports, costume paperwork, correspondence.

Compensation

Commensurate with experience.
