Artistic Administration Intern
SUBMITTED DATE: 1/24/2019

Opera Theatre of Saint Louis is known as a center for training young professionals in all aspects of opera, including arts administration.  Several current Opera Theatre staff members started as OTSL interns, and other graduates of the administrative internship program are working at arts organizations in St. Louis and around the country.

Dates of Employment: April 15-July 5, 2019; part-time availability in early April is highly desirable

Works with: Artistic Coordinator, Manager of Artistic Operations, Director of Artistic Administration
Status: Full-time, with stipend
Housing: Not provided.
Short-term options are limited and may be prohibitively expensive.
Applications accepted: On rolling basis

The Artistic Administration intern works with the Manager of Artistic Operations and Artistic Coordinator to provide administrative support for Opera Theatre's singers, directors, designers, and music staff.  Responsibilities include helping with housing, transportation, scheduling, contact sheets, auditions, and music cataloguing.

The Artistic Administration Intern must be able to interact with artists and patrons in a variety of settings and should have strong organizational skills, a basic familiarity with word-processing and data-entry programs, an ability to work independently, and a good sense of humor.  An interest in classical music and opera and an ability to read music is extremely helpful.  The position requires that the candidate have his/her own car (company mileage is reimbursed) and be able to work some evenings and weekends. Candidates must be able to lift 30 lbs.

Opera Theatre internships offer the opportunity to meet a wide variety of people both in and beyond the company.  A basic familiarity with (and enthusiasm about) opera and classical music is a great help, because it cuts down the amount of material interns must assimilate and adds greatly to interns' enjoyment of the activities offered during the season, however it is not required!  Interns are invited to attend additional lectures, recitals, and rehearsals as their schedules permit.

The majority of our interns are college students or recent college graduates, but any qualified applicants interested in pursuing a career in arts management will be considered.
