FORT WORTH OPERA
Position: Communications Manager
Reports to: General Director
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Communications Manager plays a key role in telling Fort
Worth Opera’s story across public channels—engaging audiences and strengthening
our reputation in and beyond Fort Worth. As the company enters its 80th season,
this role will help elevate our brand, expand reach, and support strategic
initiatives.
JOB DUTIES:
Media Relations
•
Draft, edit, and distribute press releases for
company announcements and pitch stories for brand visibility and awareness;
track performance against institutional goals
•
Serve as point of contact for all media
inquiries and fulfill all media and interview requests
•
Cultivate relationships among key media and
community outlets; grow and maintain database of media contacts
Public Relations and Community Engagement
•
Cultivate and foster relationships with Fort
Worth partner organizations and other institutions for cross-promotional
efforts and community engagement
•
Support front of house operations for all
performances and events
•
Serve as spokesperson for the Fort Worth Opera
as needed
Email Management
•
Collaborate across marketing, development, and
education departments to manage email and other outbound communication,
including the scheduling, composition, and tracking of all Fort Worth Opera
email campaigns
•
Manage email database and oversee list
management and maintenance
•
Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and
regulations, including CAN-SPAM
Content Creation
•
Serve as primary copywriter for outbound
communication, including but not limited to email communication, print and
digital collateral, web and social copy.
•
Align editorial calendars with performances,
campaigns, and events; manage artist content for web and social use.
•
Work closely with marketing, development,
artistic, and creative teams to ensure message alignment.
Other duties as assigned. Duties may be modified at any time
by the General Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
•
3+ years in communications, marketing, or PR
(arts/entertainment preferred)
•
Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills
•
Familiarity with press writing, media pitching,
and content planning
•
Comfortable speaking with patrons and press in
person and over the phone
•
Proficiency with tools like Google Analytics,
Emma, Asana, and Microsoft Teams
•
Passion for the performing arts and commitment
to audience engagement
•
Ability to manage multiple deadlines and
collaborate across departments
•
Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing,
Journalism, or equivalent experience preferred
PHYSICAL STANDARDS:
This position involves moderate work with lifting or moving
of up to 50 pounds occasionally, occasional climbing and work from ladders and
standing for long periods of time. The position requires ability to use
computer equipment, manual dexterity, and the ability to communicate verbally
and in written word. This position requires long hours and a flexible work
schedule.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
This position is exempt, full-time, benefits eligible.
Benefits for full-time employees include paid vacation, medical, dental and
life insurance. The salary is $50,000-$58,000.

produces other performances throughout the year, including concerts and pop-up

Worth Opera also boasts a highly successful opera education program, including
The Hattie Mae Lesley Resident Artist program and the Education and Community
Outreach Program, which brings opera to nearly 20,000 school children each year
across the state of Texas. The company’s outreach efforts bring an operatic
experience to people of every age, ethnic, and social group.
