Assistant Education Director

Description

Opera Orlando seeks a dedicated and enthusiastic education assistant to support the Company’s education and outreach programming. This part-time position is ideal for a teaching artist, arts administrator, or music educator with a passion for youth development and community engagement. The assistant will work closely with the education director and artistic director to help implement and manage educational initiatives including the Opera Orlando Youth Company (OOYC), in-school programming, and community performances/events. This position plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of rehearsals, performances, and partnerships that support Opera Orlando’s mission to educate, entertain, and enrich.

Duties and Responsibilities

Opera Orlando Youth Company (OOYC):

  • Serve as a teacher and administrator for weekly Saturday morning OOYC rehearsals

  • Support musical and theatrical instruction, including warm-ups, vocal coaching, and acting work

  • Maintain rehearsal discipline and a positive learning environment

  • Supervise students during production rehearsals and backstage during performances

  • Track attendance, communicate with families, and assist with additional recital and performance preparation

Community and Educational Outreach:

  • Assist with implementation of in-school programs, retirement community concerts, and outreach events

  • Represent Opera Orlando at community partner sites and ensure professional presentation

  • Support logistics for education-related programming, including transportation, setup, and materials

Studio Artist Program Support:

  • Help maintain the Studio Artist calendar, coordinate rehearsals, and track conflicts

  • Assist with administrative tasks including contracts, scheduling, and communication

  • Provide support for masterclasses, workshops, and community engagements involving Studio Artists

Administrative and Event Support:

  • Participate in weekly planning and production meetings

  • Support marketing team with occasional content creation for education-related social media

  • Assist with student/family communications, program evaluations, and coordination of special events

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an energetic, organized, and musically literate individual who enjoys working with students and thrives in collaborative environments. They should be comfortable taking initiative, managing groups of young performers, and supporting a fast-paced artistic team.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in music education, vocal performance, musical theatre, or a related field

  • Experience working with children or teens in a classroom, rehearsal, or camp setting

  • Basic piano/vocal coaching skills 

  • Strong communication, time management, and organizational abilities

  • Willingness to work weekends and evenings 

  • Knowledge of opera and classical music

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar)

  • Passion for the arts and community engagement

  • Must be able to pass a background check 

Desired Start Date: July 1, 2025


BENEFITS

Pay Range: $12,000 - $20,000 Annual
