Houston Grand Opera

Arts Integration Specialist

DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

The HGO Community & Learning Teaching Artist is a practicing artist or educator with a demonstrated depth of knowledge in one or more of opera’s myriad disciplines (i.e., voice, instruments, music, composition, conducting, dance, theater, storytelling, the written and spoken word, visual art, production design, dramaturgy) who makes a deep commitment to sharing their creative passion with others as part of their own practice.

Teaching Artists foster a safe and engaging environment for a wide range of learners and settings, creating pathways for personal connections to the art form of opera for people of all ages and abilities. They encourage curiosity and self-discovery and facilitate experiences that foster access to creativity with hands-on activities that may include original creation, performance, and skill development. Various HGO Community & Learning signature programs are facilitated by Teaching Artists and Arts Integration Specialists in schools, community spaces, theaters, and performing spaces. These opportunities include, but are not limited to, performances, workshops, and presentations for youth.
