OPERA America

Organizational Membership Manager

DESCRIPTION

OPERA America, the national nonprofit service organization for opera, headquartered at the National Opera Center in midtown New York City, seeks a personable frontline professional to champion the organization’s $1 million portfolio of organizational membership and advertising sales, as well as other projects.

The Organizational Membership Manager will balance outgoing charm with detailed recordkeeping — ensuring OPERA America’s 180 member companies and 350 associated organizations remain active and connected to the benefits available to them (e.g. manuals, listservs, monthly calls, regional meetings, etc.). As a first point of contact for the field, they must convey sincere interest in or curiosity about opera and the industry.

Over the phone and by email, the Manager will engage in a member-centric sales process by recruiting, soliciting, and renewing members; helping them promote their work and services through print/digital advertising opportunities (incl. magazine, digital, exhibition catalog, event programs); and serving as a first point of contact for accessing the services of OPERA America. They will track, log, acknowledge, and report on all membership and advertising transactions in OPERA America’s central database.

The Manager will report to the Chief Advancement Officer, work alongside Director of Development and Membership, Individual Membership Manager, and Member Services Coordinator, and collaborate with colleagues across the organization on various projects, as assigned.

They will attend OPERA America’s annual conference (weeklong travel) — where they will be a leader in managing registration and the welcome center — and assist with other organizational events, including occasional evening or weekend activity.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be an organized, process-oriented, and goal-driven project manager, able to lead a project from start to finish.

  • Be self-motivated and resourceful, especially in looking for ways to grow and add value to the membership.

  • Demonstrate professional communications with a variety of audiences over the phone, by email, and in person, as well as in written appeals and promotions.

  • Feel comfortable and genuine operating in a sales capacity.

  • Demonstrate accomplishments in membership, annual giving, and/or related areas of fundraising or sales either through prior job experience and/or educational degrees.

  • Have experience in mail merge, Microsoft Excel, and database software (e.g. DonorPerfect).

  • Be collaborative in working with colleagues across the organization.

Desired Start Date: October 1, 2025

BENEFITS

Pay Range: $60,000 - $68,000 Annual

Benefits package including health and dental coverage, pension, paid time off, life insurance, access to rehearsal/performance venue, an allocation of 90 remote work days, and opportunities to network with opera leaders nationwide.
