Opera Conference 2022 - Dismantling Opera's Elitism

Many standard practices at opera companies — in production, fundraising, marketing, and community programming — reinforce inherited elitism. These habitual practices may drive revenue, but they create barriers to participation by new audiences, artists, staff, and donors. In this session, we will discuss ways opera companies can dismantle these barriers, and engage in new approaches that awaken our potential as engaged cultural citizens dedicated to economic, social, and racial justice.
