Laffont Competition Intern


DESCRIPTION

The Metropolitan Opera Eric and Dominique Laffont Competition discovers promising young opera singers and assists in the development of their careers. Hundreds of volunteers from across North and South America fundraise, operate, and support the efforts of the Competition and its singers. Annually, over 1,500 singers apply and nearly $600,000 in prizes are awarded. Some of today’s greatest opera stars got their start in the Competition.

Primary Responsibilities

Assist the Laffont team with daily administrative operations of the Competition including providing support to its singers, donors, volunteers, and judges in the Districts and Regions throughout North and South America.

Implement Laffont Competition social media strategy, including content creation and video editing.

Provide support for the Semifinalists and Finalists, in advance of the National Rounds including coordination of travel, repertoire, and hospitality needs.

Offer production and event support for National Semifinals and Grand Finals Concert including artistic needs, donor relations, and liaising with Met Departments

Liaise with and support Competition volunteers throughout the season culminating in an annual meeting.

Collecting and compiling information and print materials for the meeting

Proctor auditions of the Met’s Artistic Department, as needed

Assist with other departments of the Met as it fits the career interests of the intern and as the needs of the company require

Skills and Qualifications

Strong working and developing knowledge of operatic repertoire

Graphic design and digital media fluency.

Willingness to learn Adobe Creative Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign) Familiarity and facility with applicable software platforms including Microsoft 365, Mac and PC operating systems, customized databases (eg. Tessitura)

Strong organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills

Professional demeanor in all verbal and written correspondence with intergenerational constituent groups

Strong interpersonal skills and discretion with sensitive information

Willingness to take initiative and research solutions in a fast-paced environment

Career-focused interest in opera, the arts, nonprofit and/or artistic administration

Strong attention to detail in crucial data entry and review

Physical Demand

Ability to work collaboratively and efficiently with constituents who vary greatly by geography and culture, age, and socioeconomic background.

Ability to shift quickly between developing administrative and analytic skills, and creative/artistic-based solutions.

Interest in the arts and curiosity about opera, developing opera singers, volunteer and donor engagement, and nonprofit administration.

Enthusiasm for a collaborative team environment.

$17 - $17 an hour
