Artistic & Production Associate


DESCRIPTION

Opera Memphis seeks a collaborative, organized, and hands-on Artistic & Production Associate to support productions, concerts, and community programs.

This full-time position is ideal for an early-career arts professional interested in artistic administration, production management, company management, and artist services. The Associate works closely with the Chief Operating Officer, General Director, guest artists, and production staff to help ensure successful performances and events.

Opera Memphis supports artists who maintain freelance creative work and can offer scheduling flexibility during non-production periods.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Coordinate production needs for rehearsals, performances, concerts, and special events.

  • Serve in a production role based on experience (such as stage management, lighting, sound, or technical direction).

  • Coordinate guest artist travel, housing, transportation, and logistics.

  • Hire and supervise production contractors and technicians.

  • Draft contracts, maintain schedules, production records, and budgets.

  • Manage production assets, storage, rentals, and shared spaces.

  • Serve as Road Manager for community performances and 30 Days of Opera.

  • Assist with event logistics, artist support, and other production or administrative duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in theatre, music, arts administration, production management, or a related field.

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and project-management skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.

  • Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Availability for evening and weekend rehearsals and performances.

Preferred

  • Experience in opera, theatre, music, or live performance.

  • Experience in arts administration, stage management, or production management.

  • Practical production skills (lighting, sound, carpentry, projections, technical direction, etc.).

  • Familiarity with budgeting, scheduling, and artist logistics.

  • Ability to read music

BENEFITS

Pay Range: $38,000 - $42,000 Annual
