Staff Accountant
DESCRIPTION
The Dallas Opera is a world-class performing arts organization producing outstanding mainstage and chamber opera repertoire, attracting national and international notice, committed to extensive community outreach and education, and managed to the highest standards of artistic excellence, accountability, and financial sustainability.
As the Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting key accounting functions, such as payroll, general ledger maintenance, monthly and year-end close, and annual tax filings. This position is an annual full-time role and reports to the Director of Accounting. The Staff Accountant works closely with all other departments and plays a vital role in supporting the financial operations of a world-class opera company.
Responsibilities
Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
Record daily revenue/cash journal transactions
Perform monthly bank reconciliations and research discrepancies
Maintain and reconcile credit card processing (both the revenue cycle and organizational expenses)
Prepare and maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations with proper supporting documentation
Work closely with other departments to ensure accuracy between Tessitura (donor management system) and the General Ledger
Complete a Daily Cash Flow Report for Senior Management
Prepare and process payroll through Paycom
Prepare and post journal entries related to month-end and year-end close
Serve as backup payables processor for the Accounting Clerk
Assist in preparing and submitting 1099 year-end forms and related reports
Initiate ACH and Wire transfer payments through banking site
Ensure compliance with organizational policies and accounting procedures
Communicate effectively with internal staff to resolve discrepancies and support financial transparency
As The Dallas Opera grows, so may this role. Other duties may be assigned.

Able to analyze financial data, think logically and effectively communicate results
Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Able to maintain discretion given access to confidential and/or sensitive information
Passion for opera and/or a performing arts environment preferred
Knowledge and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred, with a minimum of 2 years of accounting experience; non-profit experience is a plus
Knowledge of GAAP
Experience with Blackbaud Financial Edge, Concur, and Tessitura a plus, but not required
Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, SUMIFS, and pivots
Experience with payroll, especially for unions, preferred
Desired Start Date: September 1, 2026

Pay Range: $55,000 - $65,000 Annual
