Assistant Conductor/Pianist
DESCRIPTION
Sarasota Opera is seeking a highly skilled Assistant Conductor/Pianist to join the music staff for the 2026 winter season.
The Assistant Conductor/Pianist will be responsible for providing musical support to the opera productions, working closely with conductors, artistic director, and other members of the artistic department.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Coaching principal and cover artists on mainstage roles.
Playing staging rehearsals.
Disseminating notes to artists from conductors.
Playing for masterclasses and special events.
Collaborating with the rest of the artistic team to ensure the production is of the highest quality.
Performing any other duties as required by the Artistic Director or the Artistic Director’s designees.
Requirements:
A Bachelor's degree in Music/Piano performance, or equivalent.
Experience as a collaborative pianist and/or as a member of a music staff in an opera company or similar organization.
Knowledge of languages
A strong interest in opera and knowledge of the standard repertoire, especially from Mozart to Puccini/verismo.
Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends.
This is a seasonal position. The dates are:
Arrival Jan 4 – last day of contract: March 29, 2026

La bohème (Puccini)
The Merry Widow (Lehar; performed in English)
Il trovatore (Verdi)
Susannah (Floyd)
BENEFITS
Pay Range: $1 - $1 Weekly
Pay commensurate with experience. Travel/housing provided.
