Costume Rentals and Collection Assistant Manager
DESCRIPTION
Under the supervision of the Costume Rentals & Collections Manager, the Costume Rentals & Collections Assistant Manager provides support for the active and highly-reputed USUO Costumes Department. We are seeking a reliable, meticulous, and project-oriented individual who loves cooperative record-keeping, providing customer service to existing clients while welcoming new customers, and helping manage our complex and ever-evolving collection. This individual should be comfortable with a variety of duties in the areas of data, garment, and project management. The areas of work are threefold: costume collection, costume rentals, costume upkeep. The range of tasks also includes costume construction/repair, physical labor, and understanding of opera costumes. This person will need to become confident in making important and collaborative decisions. With a penchant for logistical expertise and willingness to remain flexible, the Assistant Manager will actively partner with the team to ensure rentals ship and are received accurately and on time, costumes for mainstage shows are coordinated, and all issues are logged and shared appropriately.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Provide day-to-day support to the Costume Rentals & Collections Manager in handling all aspects of the USUO costume collection.
Complete paperwork relating to rentals (i.e. packing lists, specs).
Keep costume inventory records current, complete, accurate, and organized.
Maintain Utah Opera show binders current and accurate.
Accurately pull and style costumes to artist measurements and desired look.
Maintain costume storage areas in a clean, organized, and orderly manner.
Pack and inventory costumes to be rented out.
Assist with rental package shipping logistics.
Process costumes returned from rental (i.e. checking in, laundry, measuring, restocking).
Source materials as necessary.
Complete repairs, alterations, and builds as necessary and as directed.
Work with team to pull costumes for mainstage shows and rentals.
Assume additional responsibilities and perform special projects as needed or directed.
Occasional nights and weekends required.
REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:
3 years’ experience in professional theatrical costume construction.
Professional work ethic and the ability to collaborate effectively with staff colleagues and outside / partner organizations.
Ability to work independently and efficiently manage projects.
Ability to work with a team and skillfully achieve assigned tasks.
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail.
Appropriate computer literacy with competence in Microsoft Office.
Advanced hand and machine stitching skills.
Working knowledge of various costume construction methods.
Ability to operate basic costume workroom equipment and accurately read a tape measure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to remain stationary (sitting or standing) for long periods of time.
Ability to manually work safely with stock room equipment.
Ability to climb ladders to reach items.
Ability to move rolling clothing racks weighing up to 200 pounds.
Ability to manually work safely with costume workroom equipment.
Ability to twist, bend, reach, kneel, and lift up to 60 pounds.
Ability to safely transport costumes in personal or company vehicle to/from venues or distribution centers (FedEx, UPS, USPS, etc.).
SALARY RANGE:
Pay begins at $23/hour, plus excellent benefits
