Opera exists in a complex world that has a direct and measurable impact on our work. This has never been demonstrated more clearly than in recent months. The uncertainty that has reigned since January brings back memories of the dislocation caused by the events of 9/11, the Great Recession of 2008–2009, and the recent pandemic. The continuing confusion of public policies and their consequences is disorienting and destabilizing for our entire industry.
