Bringing Latinx Voices to the Opera Stage
Around the country, Latinx culture is a vibrant part of the local arts landscape, but in the opera house, works by Latinx creative artists are rarely programmed. Operas by important Latin American composers have not made it to theaters in the U.S. In order to enrich season offerings with works in Spanish or inspired by the literature and history of Latin America, opera companies are turning to the creators of today to bring a wide array of stories and musical styles to the stage. OPERA America’s October webinar features some of the most prominent creative artists in opera to discuss their vision for opera in the 21st century.
