Accountant

Reports to: Director of Finance Salary: $24 an hour, approximately 25 hours per week Status: Part-Time, non-exempt, hourly Benefits: This position is not eligible for employee benefits. Work Arrangement: Hybrid, with three days per week in the office

Position Summary

The Accountant is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and transaction processing of Fort Worth Opera, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and month-end support. This position works closely with the Director of Finance and provides responsive accounting support to staff and external partners.

The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented accounting professional who can work independently, manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate financial records, and collaborate effectively across departments.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Close

·        Maintain QuickBooks Online and record routine accounting transactions and journal entries.

·        Prepare schedules and reconciliations for month-end and year-end close.

·        Help ensure the accuracy and integrity of the organization’s financial records.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

·        Review, code, and enter vendor invoices; verify approvals and documentation; prepare payments; and maintain vendor records and W-9s.

·        Record cash receipts, donations, and other revenue transactions and coordinate with departments to ensure revenue is recorded accurately.

·        Assist with annual 1099 reporting.

Payroll

·        Process bi-weekly payroll, review time records, and maintain appropriate documentation.

·        Process authorized payroll changes and assist with payroll and benefit reconciliations.

Grants, Audit & Compliance

·        Assist with tracking grant revenue and expenses and provide financial information for grant applications, budgets, reports, and close-outs.

·        Assist the Director of Finance with schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation for the annual audit, Form 990, and other required filings.

·        Maintain organized financial and compliance records and follow established accounting policies and internal controls.

Operational Support

·        Provide financial data and documentation for organizational needs.

·        Assist the Director of Finance with special projects as needed.

 

Qualifications

·        Three to five years of experience in an accounting environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

·        Nonprofit accounting experience preferred; performing arts experience is a plus.

·        Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, and month-end close.

·        Proficiency with QuickBooks Online required; experience with Bill.com or similar accounts payable software preferred.

·        Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

·        Experience processing payroll and reconciling payroll-related accounts.

·        Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

·        Ability to communicate and collaborate professionally with staff, vendors, volunteers, and members of the public.

·        Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding payroll, banking, employee, donor, and other sensitive information.

Compensation & Work Arrangement

This is a part-time position at approximately 25 hours per week, paid hourly at $24/hour.  The position is not eligible for employee benefits.

The Accountant will work a hybrid schedule that includes three days per week in the Fort Worth Opera office, with flexibility for limited remote work and additional in-person attendance when organizational needs require.
