Child Wrangler
DESCRIPTION
Description
PURPOSE: To provide support to the Staging Staff and the Rehearsal Department by escorting child performers during rehearsals and performances. To ensure the safety of each child.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Assumes “guardianship” when scheduled for wrangler shifts.
Arrives at the Rehearsal Department office 15 minutes prior to each service.
Works collaboratively with the Rehearsal Department/Studio Teacher(s) assigned to each service to ensure the safety of each child.
Assists parents/guardians with the sign-in process before and after each service.
Reports any unexpected absences or late arrivals immediately to the Rehearsal Department.
Distributes ID badges/name tags to child performers, as needed
Escorts child performers to rehearsal spaces both within the WMOH grounds and external venues.
Listens for the page for the children to come to stage during rehearsals and performances.
Assists with keeping children quiet in the wings and general backstage areas.
Assists Studio Teachers to determine the most safe and efficient paths to and from the stage (and/or dressing rooms).
Accompanies children to their stage entrance(s) and remains present through their stage exit(s).
Remains aware of scene changes and potentially dangerous technical elements when waiting off-stage with the children for their stage entrances and/or exits.
Escorts child performers to dressing rooms, as directed.
Works collaboratively with Dressers to ensure dressing room protocol
Remains aware of any health issues or allergies the child performers might have (medicine, nuts, dairy, gluten, etc.) & communicates with the Rehearsal Department accordingly.
Remains with all children until they are picked-up from rehearsals/performances by known parent/guardian.
Supervises children during on-site breaks.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED or equivalent work experience.
PREREQUISITE SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
Must have reliable daily attendance and punctuality, as well as a professional appearance.
Must maintain a high level of confidentiality.
Provides a welcoming and friendly environment for all children employed by San Francisco Opera as well as guardians/parents.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, late night services, and split shifts.
Must perform the functions of the position in a safe manner while working in an environment with a high level of noise and distractions.
Must have the ability to work in onstage conditions: to see clearly in low-light situations such as are common backstage and in the theatre; walk and stand on complex stage settings throughout day-to-day activities.
Must be willing to undergo the Live Scan process prior to working with Children.
BENEFITS
Pay Range: $19 - $20 Hourly
