At the OPERA America Salutes awards dinner, Marc A. Scorca, president emeritus of the organization, was inducted into the Opera Hall of Fame. Frederica von Stade, a member of the Opera Hall of Fame herself, made the surprise announcement in the Plaza Hotel’s Grand Ballroom on March 20, where the 500 attendees broke into a rousing ovation. Von Stade and fellow mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato also offered a musical tribute to Scorca, singing the Jake Heggie song “Facing Forward.”
