New Works Exploration Grants

New Works Exploration Grants provide travel subsidies for Professional Company Member staff to travel to other cities to attend performances or workshops of new American operas and music-theater works.

These grants encourage greater familiarity with the broad range of new American opera and music-theater works — and the producers and artists who create them. Attending more performances of new works and meeting with the creative artists and producers responsible for them build the fluency and expertise of OPERA America members in an area of artistic enterprise that is still needed for company leaders.

New Works Exploration Grants are supported by the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation and the Mellon Foundation.

Grant Details

Grants totaling up to $2,000 are available per company annually (as available) to support travel expenses related to staff attendance at performances/workshops of new American works. Grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until the funding is exhausted.
