Since it was founded in 1970, OPERA America has built a broad and diverse membership base to access the power of collective experience, gather insight and share best practices. Incorporated with only 20 member companies, the organization now includes over 150 Professional Company Members; 300 Associate, Business, Career Service and Educational Producing Affiliate Members; and 1,600 Individual Members.

Gulf Coast Symphony

Founded in 1996 by its current music director and conductor, Dr. Andrew Kurtz, the Gulf Coast Symphony is the premier community orchestra of Southwest Florida and one of the most dynamic community orchestras in the United States. We are recognized for our high-quality symphonic performances as well as our active community engagement and commitment to arts education.

The Mission

The Gulf Coast Symphony exists to contribute to the cultural enrichment of Lee County by producing and performing a broad variety of concerts and creating a diverse, innovative, and balanced program of performances, events, and community and education projects that reaches the widest possible public. The primary goals of the Gulf Coast Symphony are:

  • To help build general arts awareness in Lee County
  • To develop new audiences for the arts in our community
  • To assist in the development of potential future performers
The Gulf Coast Symphony enjoys dynamic, proactive, and deepening relationships with the stakeholders, constituencies, and the community that we serve.

All OPERA America facilities are handicapped accessible. The National Opera Center features ground-level entry with elevators to the venue. All spaces are wheelchair accessible, and modular seating can be arranged to accommodate wheelchair users for all programs and performances. Handicapped accessible restrooms are available on all floors.
