Innovation Grants, offered from 2017 to 2020, supported Professional Company Members in implementing innovative projects in opera’s most important areas of practice, including artistic vitality, audience experience, organizational effectiveness, and community connections.

Opera companies operate in a complex environment. They grapple with artistic trends, changing consumer behavior, increased competition for philanthropy, and immediate community needs. Yet, the multidisciplinary assets and collaborative nature of the art form lend themselves to success in innovation.

Innovation Grants fostered progress in the industry by investing in experimentation and facilitating field-wide learning.
